The Harmonium of Life and Death
Finding stillness within the movement of life
The relentless speed of today’s world does not carry me forward; it holds me back. It leaves so little room for stillness that I sometimes feel it denies me the opportunity to participate in life in my own natural way.
Even if I wished to join this race, I could not. Racing is simply not in my nature.
I pause.
I have always paused, and I believe I will continue to pause. But I will never race. Nor do I wish to learn how to swim merely to reach the shore everyone else is trying to reach.
I can only drift.
And even my drifting must happen in silence—not toward another shore, but deeper into the mystery of existence.
The Disciple Hidden Within Me
Every movement of life carries a lesson. Every event, relationship, silence, difficulty, and passing moment has something to teach me.
When I become attentive to these movements, life transforms me into a disciple.
I do not need to enter a classroom to learn from existence. Life itself is the classroom, experience is the teacher, and awareness is the eye through which its lessons become visible.
The world often measures progress by distance, speed, and achievement. But my journey follows another measure: How deeply have I understood the moment I have passed through?
Sometimes one conscious pause teaches me more than many years of restless movement.
The moment I stop trying to conquer life, life begins revealing itself to me.
Stillness Within Movement
My purpose is not to escape movement. My journey is to discover stillness within it.
There is movement everywhere. The body breathes, the mind produces thoughts, the seasons change, relationships evolve, and time appears to carry everything away. Yet somewhere within this constant movement is a place that does not move.
To discover that place is to meet life's essence.
Stillness is not the absence of activity. It is the presence of awareness within activity. It allows me to walk without becoming lost in the road, to speak without abandoning silence, and to experience change without being uprooted from myself.
Stillness does not stop life’s movement; it reveals the silent center from which all movement arises.
When the Pause Becomes a Garden
My life is blossoming through its pauses.
Each moment of stillness plants another seed within me. Some seeds become understanding. Some become acceptance. Others bloom as patience, tenderness, freedom, or wonder.
Together, they are becoming a garden of their own.
It is not an ordinary garden. The flowers blossoming here belong to the universe. Their colors cannot always be seen by the eyes, and their fragrance cannot always be captured by the senses. They bloom within awareness.
A mysterious rhythm plays through this garden—a rhythm carried upon the melody of fragrance. My moments do not merely pass through it; they dance.
Perhaps this is what it means to live spiritually: not to leave the world, but to become sensitive enough to hear the subtle music already flowing through it.
When a pause is entered consciously, it does not become emptiness; it becomes a garden.
The Black and White Notes
Life does not compose its music from happiness alone.
Its melody emerges through union: joy and sorrow, arrival and departure, birth and death. Like the black and white keys of a harmonium, these apparent opposites belong to the same instrument.
The white notes are life.
The black notes are death.
Yet neither can create the complete music alone.
Death gives depth to life, while life gives expression to death. Between them, time becomes a melody—and every moment of my existence begins to soar beyond it.
I do not wish to play only the white notes. I want to hear the whole composition. I want to understand the silence between the notes, because perhaps the deepest music resides there.
Life and death are not two opposing melodies; they are the black and white notes of one eternal instrument.
Beyond the Other Shore
I am not searching for another shore.
A shore suggests that the journey must end somewhere—that life must finally deliver me to a destination. But what if existence is not asking me to arrive? What if it is asking me to become fully present while drifting?
Then drifting is not aimlessness.
It is surrender without unconsciousness. It is movement without ambition. It is trust without demanding certainty.
I pause, but I do not become lifeless.
